RACE
RULES
Please review all race rules below. If the violation
of a rule results in a penalty, the penalty is noted after the rule
in (parantheses). All participants are required to sign a waiver that
they have read and understand the race rules.
EQUIPMENT

Lose your passport (Disqualification)

Mandatory equipment must be carried at all times,
no exceptions. This includes race passport and a visible race number.
Mandatory equipment for specific sections need only be carried as
specified by organizers for that leg. There will be at least one
gear check on the course.(15 minutes per infraction)

Dropping off or picking up of equipment may only
take place at a transition rea. No outside support is allowed although
you may use resources on your route such as buying water or food
at a convenience store. (15 minutes per infraction)

Use of GPS-global positioning systems, radios,
cellular phones. Watches with only a compass and an altimeter are
allowed. (Disqualification)

Teammates must stay within 100 feet of each other
at all times during the race. (15 minutes per infraction)

Racers must stay on the prescribed course. Stay
off private property unless specified. (15 minutes per infraction)

Racers must complete the entire course, pass through
all checkpoints in order, and have their passport signed or punched
at each checkpoint.

Racers must use only the mode of travel specified
for each leg. (i.e. teams cannot cycle during the trekking section).

Only human-powered travel is allowed. (Disqualification)

Respect the environment. No littering. Carry out
all that you carry in. Bury all sanitary waste. (Disqualification)

No outside assistance, other than in specified
transition areas may be utilized by racers. Support crews not allowed.

Racers may help each other during the race. Actually
it's encouraged. If a team is in trouble, other teams are encouraged
to help. A time bonus may be awarded to the helping team at the
race director's discretion.

All team members must check in together at each
checkpoint. All team members must cross the finish line within 20
feet of each other.
WITHDRAWAL
Teams may continue if one team member withdraws, but
will be unranked in the final standings. The remaining teammate must
carry all team mandatory equipment. Voluntary withdrawals must occur
at transition areas or a manned checkpoint. Teams that withdraw must
notify race officials at the transition area.
RACE ORGANIZATION
Penalties will be added to team's total time at the
end of the race. The race director and course designer will determine
time penalties for specific rules infractions prior to start of the
race. Winners will be the fastest complete 2-person team in each category
(including penalties) to cross the finish line with a complete passport.
The Race Organizers reserve the right to assess time penalties or
bonuses to racers. Race organizers reserve the right to decide whether
or not a person or team may continue for health, safety, or other
reasons (e.g. inadequate time remaining to finish entire course).
Race organizers reserve the right to make changes to the course in
order to protect the safety of the competitors at any time.
